Heat related Vulnerability Index

The spatial distribution of heat-related presentations in the greater Darwin metropolitan region is highest in the northern coastal and eastern suburbs. This corresponds to areas with higher numbers of people whose primary language is not English and older people who live alone.

ED presentation during extreme heat days

The spatial distribution of daily emergency presentations reported as ‘heat related’ were used to measure emergency health outcomes in Darwin between 24/1/2005 and 8/10/2011. Extreme heat days were defined using a mean temperature of 31˚C. The highest presentation rate was in the city of Darwin and coastal areas to the north and outer east of the city.
